About this event
Washington's Birthday/Presidents' Day
In 1878, the U.S. Congress declared George Washington's birthday a federal holiday. The first observation was February 22, 1879. The Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1970 changed the date of the holiday to the third Monday in February. This change means the holiday falls between February 15 and 21. The holiday goes by various names in U.S. States; in California, the holiday is called Presidents' Day.
